Another Detroit Skyline shot, looking west.
Got a little cabin fever going on in the Houston home. Time to pry the kid away form video games and cell phone ( too much wailing and gnashing of teeth )and get out of the house. So where to go? Someplace warm and tropical, someplace close…..
So off we go to Belle Isle, Michigan’s newly minted 102nd State Park , for a visit to Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory.
In August my wife and I were invited to a unique party by our good friend Mary Zatina, the Diner en Blanc. Part fine dining, part flash mob. No one knows who organizers it, just a simply email announcing the time a place and you show up with your food and drink, tables, chairs and friends and enjoy the evening, oh yeah you gotta wear white ( I looked like Bibendum ). This years event was held at Ernie Harwell Park, the site of the former Tiger Stadium.
This years party had some attention from the media, whenTom Daldin of Michigan Under the Radar and his crew and did a story about the event. I’m in the video, look for me I’m the guy in white with a white hat.
Now that the Detroit City Council (or Clowncil ) have once again rejected a offer from the State of Michigan to take over Belle Isle Park, and has come up with its own 10 year plan, We can now look forward to this once beautiful park to fall further into neglect and disrepair. I can’t say the State of Michigan taking over the Belle Isle is the best solution, but is a damn sight better then anything the Detroit City Council has or will come up with, why I’m I sure….because the City of Detroit has NO MONEY.
